6 Kickboxing Benefits You Should Know

Kickboxing workouts pack more than just a punch for your health.  Like most workouts, you’ll break a major sweat while you punch, kick and perform various exercises each round – but the benefits of this type of fitness go well beyond strength and cardio.  Studies find that Kickboxing workouts improved upper-body, aerobic power, anaerobic fitness, flexibility, speed, and agility.  Pretty much every aspect of physical training.  While Kickboxing can be intimidating don’t let that turn you off.  Once you try it you will get excited and see the amazing benefits that it has to offer and also how much fun you will have while training.

It’s Full-Body Burn

Your arms might do a lot of the work as you twist and turn through each punch and your legs certainly get a workout as you push through each kick, but your entire body is being used to create force and power for each movement.  Power is generated from the legs, through the core and extends out of each punch and kick.  Also, our Kickboxing workouts involve a total-body warm up, circuit training and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with weights, dumbbells, kettlebells, TRX, battle ropes and bodyweight exercises to constantly change up your workouts.

Make It Your Own Workout

While you do get a full-body challenge with every class, you can also move at your own pace and modify when you need to.  That also means you can really turn it up and push yourself by adding more speed and force behind each punch when your ready to increase the intensity.   Our instructors will also show modifications for individuals who are unable to perform any exercises or movements.

Endurance, Speed and Power Training All In One

Kickboxing isn’t just one type of training.  While you are going to get a high-intensity workout each class, performing an all-out effort and actively recovering between those rounds, you’re also moving the entire class, so you will improve and enhance your endurance.

For the punches and kicks, you want to perform them quick and snappy, just like you would if you were in a fight, so that is your speed challenge.  While applying proper technique and mechanics behind your punches and kicks you will be improving your overall power and explosiveness.  Many people think that they are just using their upper body, but if you’re doing it correctly that power is coming from your lower body and core.

Build Strength & Get Toned

Hitting the heavy bag gives your body constant resistance which will improve your strength through each class.  You will also notice more muscle tone in your arms, shoulders, legs, butt, and core through the high number of reps performed each class.

Workout Your Brain

While kickboxing, your brain begins to engage and learns to act quick as it responds to punches, sharpen reflexes and memorize combinations.  Most individuals go on auto-pilot during their workouts, but with kickboxing you are constantly stimulating and engaging brain function the entire class.

Major Stress Reliever

There is no better stress relief than than taking your frustrations, anger and stress out on the heavy bag.  These workouts will have a tremendous benefit to your mental health.  We often hear our members talk about how they feel empowered after our classes and that Kickboxing is their form of therapy.

Gamblers Jiu-Jitsu: Hygiene Commandments

Gamblers Jiu-Jitsu: Hygiene Commandments

1. Don’t claw your training partners.

Keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed short.  Why? During training there is a lot of grabbing and gripping.  Long or sharp nails can cause nasty cuts to your training partners and even worse if you scratch their eye.

2. Clean your uniform after every class.

Yes, EVERY CLASS! We work hard to keep our academy clean and safe from infections,  we need to make sure everyone is doing their part to keep germs and bacteria away.

3. Don’t let your gear ferment in your bag.

If you can’t wash your gear right after training, make sure to remove it from the bag. Make sure to also wash the bag so funk doesn’t grow on it. Pro tip: Bring a moisture-tight bag with you to training to take your sweaty stuff out in a neat package.

4. Shower after every training.

Showering before training is a courteous move especially after a long day of work or school.  Showering immediately after training is the best move.  Use a strong antibacterial body wash or soap such as Defense Soap.  Make sure you are odor-free when stepping on the mats for training.

5. Always have footwear on when walking off the mats.

This is one very easy rule to remember.  Never walk with shoes on the mats, never walk without them off the mats.  This prevents nasty floor germs and bacteria from making their way onto our clean mats.  We recommend having a pair of flip flops in your training bag to keep in the shoe rack if you need to step off the mats.

6. Make sure your breath is not kickin.

We keep mints and mouthwash in the bathroom for students to keep their breath fresh.  Nobody wants to know that you had garlic chicken for lunch.

7. Don’t train if you’re sick.

Never train if you are sick with a contagious disease like the flu or the common cold.  This is a major jerk move.  Not only is it not good for you to train when you’re sick, but you’ve also now brought a virus for your friends, coaches and training partners.  If you just stand not training, then stretch or do some light bodyweight workouts at home.  Rest, drink lots of water, watch online Jiu-Jitsu videos but DO NOT TRAIN until you are no longer sick.

8. Don’t train if you (even) suspect you have a skin infection.

Never, ever train if you suspect that you have a skin infection. If you are even a tiny bit worried show it to one of the staff or your physician. It’s incredibly important to not train because most skin infections are very contagious.

9. Cover up your cuts & scratches.

Make sure to cover up any cuts or scratches you have.  This will ensure that you keep the area clean and avoid infection.

10. Protect your hair.

If you have long hair make sure you keep it under control and tied tightly.  This will save time during class and help you protect your hair.

Confidence is one of the best gifts a parent can give to their child

“Confidence is one of the best gifts a parent can give to their child.”

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent activity to help boost your kids confidence.  Confidence is essential for children as they grow and develop so give them a head start and enroll them in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  Here are some ways Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can help your child become more confident.

Empowers them to stand up for themselves:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu helps bully proof your child by teaching them non-violent self-defense so that they can stand up for themselves if a bully confronts them.  If they know they can defend themselves they will become more confident, which will show on and off the mats.

Teaches them that size and gender don’t matter:

Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent martial art for someone who is smaller than their opponent because it teaches attacks and defense from bottom positions, how to use leverage, gravity to get to a better position and where to apply pressure to control a position.  It is empowering to know that even if you are smaller you can win the fight.  It’s not uncommon to see girls competing against boys with much success as women’s Jiu-Jitsu is growing fast and girls tend to pick up Jiu-Jitsu really fast.  It shows children that no matter their size or gender if they work hard they will be successful.

Shows them that progress is more important than perfection:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will teach kids to appreciate their progress, and how to enjoy the journey without rushing to the destination. Everyone wants instant results but hardly anything works this way, and Jiu-Jitsu is no exception. It will teach kids that it takes consistency and perseverance to accomplish goals.

Equips them to embrace failure:

In Jiu-Jitsu winning and losing is part of the journey. Failure is a part of life as well, so it is important for kids to learn how to deal with it, and know how to learn from it, and come back motivated to do better instead of just giving up. They will begin to see losses as a way to progress and learn rather then the end of the road.

Hardens them both mentally and physically:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is challenging both mentally and physically, but this also makes it extremely rewarding. It will make your kids stronger from the inside out and teach them how to thrive outside of their comfort zone. This strength will accompany them into their everyday lives enabling them to be better equipped for the challenges life will inevitably throw at them.

At Gamblers/Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Academy we have kids programs for ages 3-6, 7-12, and teenagers. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the best martial art for kids and we are proud to have the best kids program in Palm Beach Gardens, FL empowering our children everyday is our top priority.

5 Ways Jiu-Jitsu Will Transform Your Child

Martial Arts have long been seen as a great character building activity for children and while most people who think of martial arts often think of Karate or Taekwondo and the striking approach to martial arts, more and more parents are discovering that Jiu-Jitsu’s grappling and self-defense focus has amazing benefits to offer.  Plus it’s true that Jiu-Jitsu can arm children with much a much less violent approach to self-defense and bullying.  But that’s not the only benefits that kids will get from training Jiu-Jitsu.  Here are 5 ways Jiu-Jitsu will transform your child..

Overcoming adversity will build self-confidence

Jiu-Jitsu is difficult to learn.  There is no way around it.  It requires focus, patience and dedication and these are all great lessons for your child to learn early on.  With each challenge your child overcomes on the mat, they will develop a new sense of self-confidence that will help them overcome even greater challenges on and off the mat.

They will prove to themselves that even though it will be hard they know they can do it.  No activity will develop your child’s confidence more than Jiu-Jitsu.

Training will keep them active with a healthy mindset

The statistics are out there.  Children are becoming “digital addicts” and less active every year.  Obesity is in their future, if not the present.  Not with Jiu-Jitsu.  Getting your child involved in a martial art that demands physical fitness and builds it naturally through training, you are gifting your child new habits that will serve them throughout their lives.

More than just having a great physical effect on your child, Jiu-Jitsu also builds a healthy mindset.  Jiu-Jitsu promotes good citizenship, cooperation, positive thinking and a gentle, constructive, creative mindset.  Parents who enroll their kids in Jiu-Jitsu often remark on how much their child matures and becomes the best version of themselves.

Positive peers and social interactions

You try to teach your child good social skills and morals but, they will spend a huge part of their day away from you and your influence.   This can lead to attitude problems, disrespectful behavior and later on potentially dangerous situations that you’d rather them not be involved in.

By enrolling your child in Jiu-Jitsu, you can provide them with a positive peer group for of kids learning the same life skills and character lessons that they are.  Many of which who will become lifelong friends.

Develop a sense of hard work & self-discipline

“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.”  This has been a coaches mantra for years.  Jiu-Jitsu will teach your child to work harder to see improvements.  It will challenge them daily and in the process teach them to challenge themselves.

Parents often find that their kids start doing their homework without being asked, or helping out around the house.  In addition they become more respectful toward authority figures.

Learning techniques will build their sense of strategy and problem-solving skills

Jiu-Jitsu is extremely complex.  Many consider it “Human Chess”.  Every action on the mats has a counter to it.  Every action also sets up another more powerful action, if engaged correctly.

Both the technique and live training aspects of the class will teach your child to think under pressure, solve problems with their brain over their brawn and find the most effective path through any situation.

These skills transfer into other areas of their lives.

Why The Gamblers?

Why the name Gamblers?

We think it has become important for us to reach out to the community and explain who the Gamblers are and how we got here.

Our Founder Mike Ciprianni has had the Gambler name in his family since he was 10 years old.  His older cousins put together numerous teams to compete in Baseball, Softball and Football when they were kids.  Many local championships were won in these sports and everyone wanted to become a part of the Gamblers.

Growing up as a kid Mike Ciprianni could not wait until he was able to put together his own Gambler teams with his own friends and family.  When Mike was 15 he put together a softball team and a football team that also won their share of championships year after year.  The Gamblers name was then passed on to his younger cousins and then eventually Mike came to Florida and with the help of a good friend Duke Thrush started the Palm Beach Gardens Baseball team for his son Frankie and his friends.  They were number 1 in the country 2 years in a row all while playing the toughest teams in travel baseball.  They are still the most talent filled and most feared team in their age group every year.

Everyone should know and understand that these names are only used as a novelty.  It is no different than naming yourself “The Warriors”,  “The Crusaders”, “The Rebels” or “The Renegades”.  Everyone wants a cool name and The Gamblers is the name Mike lives and breathes because of its history in his family.

If anyone has actually taken the time to meet and get to know Mike Ciprianni, they would immediately know 2 things.  First is that he loves to give back and help kids.  He has sponsored as many as 8 teams at a time.  When we say sponsored that means paying for uniforms, tournaments and a great coaching staff.  Anyone that knows him knows he spends hundreds of thousands of dollars each year helping these kids stay out of trouble and excel in sports.  Second, is that he loves his friends ands family and considers all of his friends as his family.  He treats everyone as an equal and loves having everyone around.

Gamblers Jiu-Jitsu & Kickboxing Club

Mike Ciprianni developed a strong passion for mixed martial arts after following the UFC around the country when it was only legal in a handful of states and cities.  Because of his passion for the martial arts he began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which in his opinion is the best foundation for fighting out of all other martial arts.   He was adamant about his son Frankie learning it as well.  He never let his son quit and it was a constant battle to keep Frankie interested in training and competing.  Today Frankie is a multiple time kids world champion, 2-time state champion and national champion.  He’s also won many local tournaments and trains every day.  Mike truly believes that the self-confidence his son gained through Jiu-Jitsu has helped him become a phenomenal athlete in other sports and also believes every person should learn Jiu-Jitsu as a form of Self-Defense.

What’s different about Gamblers Jiu-Jitsu is that we spend the money to fly current and former world champions to come teach our students Jiu-Jitsu and give them different techniques, concepts and philosophies on training.  We also are a non-political academy that believes in cross-training.  We understand if our students and competitors feel the need to cross-train and support it.  We are so confident in our curriculum, philosophies and culture of our academy that we have no fear of losing students to another school.  We are also confident that our students can hold their own in all areas whether it’s Self-Defense, Sport, MMA or training at another school.  Some academies aren’t confident in what they are teaching or in the level of their students that they forbid their students from cross-training.  They fear that their students will learn more somewhere else.

The Gamblers have become a family not an organization.  Mike believes in keeping the family together even outside of training, playing or practicing.   He feels it’s important to maintain this close bond and give back to students and parents and also let people know that he appreciates their loyalty.

Mike believes that in life you have to take on some risk which is essentially a “Gamble” if you want to succeed.  So the name Gamblers became a perfect fit for the message he wanted to convey.  He has always said “Success isn’t going to fall into your lap, you have to go out and take the chance to change your life.  Take that chance to learn new things.” Everyone knows that the first step is the hardest step.

Come take that chance and see who the Gamblers are and what the Gamblers Family is all about.  Whether it’s Jiu-Jitsu, Self-Defense or Kickboxing.  Any one of them will change your life for the better and help you become the best version of yourself.
